Developing smart robotic delivery points for urban environments

Agora Networks contacted Prevas with a vision to address the growing demand for 24/7 parcel delivery in urban areas. Their concept went beyond traditional delivery solutions by incorporating smart features such as advertising displays, air quality monitoring and mobile network base stations into a robotic delivery point.

Integrated Design for Urban Automation

Drawing on extensive experience in industrial robotic automation cells, Prevas started development by systematically addressing each component, while keeping the end goal of mass production in mind. This methodical approach enabled the team to create a refined solution suitable for industrial replication.

“The real achievement was turning an innovative concept into a manufacturable product,” says Juha Palmén, Vice President, Automation at Prevas. “By combining our expertise in industrial robotics with scalable production methods, we have created a solution that meets both current needs and future manufacturing requirements.”

The project presented several challenges, particularly in optimizing the use of space while incorporating all the required functionality. The design team worked to integrate the smart features – advertising capabilities, environmental monitoring systems and network infrastructure – from the initial design phase to ensure seamless integration of all elements.

Manufacturing excellence through partnership

Throughout the development process, Prevas maintained strong project management practices and leveraged established partnerships with high-quality manufacturers. These relationships, based on long-term collaboration and stringent quality requirements, proved essential in meeting production schedules and quality standards.

“From the outset, the manufacturing strategy focused on scalability,” says Juha Palmén. “While this approach added complexity to the design phase, it ensured that the final product could be efficiently replicated for mass production. Regular communication with manufacturing partners throughout the project helped maintain alignment with production goals.”

From Vision to Reality

Working from Agora Networks’ initial requirements, Prevas managed the extensive design and development process through consistent communication with the customer. The result is a sophisticated robotic delivery point that effectively addresses the challenges of urban parcel delivery while adding valuable functionality.

“This implementation demonstrates how innovative concepts can be transformed into practical, scalable solutions through careful design considerations and strategic manufacturing partnerships,” says Juha Palmén.
