Technical Calculations

With well-executed technical calculations and strength calculations, you can ensure both function and safety early on. This creates security in the development work, reduces the need for physical testing – and saves both time and resources.

The calculations help us make wise decisions early on – and avoid costly mistakes later on.

Technical calculations with us

Technical calculations are a crucial part of developing sustainable and robust products. Through careful analysis, dimensioning and simulations, we can verify function and safety, identify risks and optimize designs early in the process. This reduces the need for physical prototypes and saves both time and costs.

We work with everything from individual calculation assignments to larger projects, where calculations are an integral part of product development. Our engineers can support you both at your own facilities and on-site with your customers, and we have experience from a range of different industries and applications – from industrial machinery and vehicles to energy and infrastructure.

Why work with technical calculations?

With the right calculations, the risk of unexpected errors, unnecessary material use and production problems is minimized. You get a solid basis for decisions, and the opportunity to adapt the design to real conditions – before anything is built.

We can help throughout the chain: from preliminary studies and design support to verification, risk analysis and documentation. Our assignments span areas such as strength, thermals, flow, dynamics, vibrations and seismicity. We often also act as a sounding board for designers and project managers, and we are used to running both one-off interventions and larger technical investigations – for example in the event of breakdowns or regulatory requirements.

What can we help you with?

We work according to established standards such as Eurocodes, VDI 2230, EN 12663 – and supplement with proprietary and customized methods where required. Our calculation tools include ANSYS and Siemens NX.

As members of NAFEMS, we work according to recognized guidelines and industry standards to ensure quality at every step.

We design and analyze the strength of welded and cast steel, aluminum and composite structures. Loads such as vibrations, movements and magnetic fields can cause fatigue and cracks - therefore we identify critical areas early and suggest improvements that save both time and costs.

With extensive experience and tools such as ANSYS and Siemens NX, we perform FEM calculations and simulations according to current standards, such as Eurocodes and EN 12663.

We have worked with everything from industrial robots and train components to wind turbines and earthquake-resistant power grids - both in Sweden and internationally.

Calculation of pressure rise and dimensioning for pressure relief. Pressure rise can occur during arcing in switchgear, which risks damaging the plant. By carefully dimensioning pressure relief, such as ventilation ducts and safety hatches, damage is minimized – the hatches should open at the correct pressure but remain closed during normal variations.

We analyze heat and flow processes in solids, liquids and gases using CFD programs and analytical methods. The aim is to predict and prevent problems that can arise from heat effects – such as stress changes, fatigue or overheating.

We evaluate, among other things, heat transfer, flow resistance and cooling with extensive experience in air flows, radiation and wave propagation. Our calculations are carried out with, for example, ANSYS, and have been used in projects related to braking processes, electronics heating and oil-cooled gearboxes.

We analyze vibrations from, for example, rotating magnetic fields, vehicles and earthquakes to ensure strength in dynamic environments. When loads are close to a structure's natural frequency, stresses can increase sharply - even at low levels.

With FEM simulations and response analyses, we minimize the risk of fatigue and deformation. We follow current standards such as Eurocodes and EN 12663, but also work with customized methods in tools such as Ansys and Siemens NX.

We have, among other things, designed structures for seismically exposed areas, wind loads and vibrations in rotating machinery.

Simulation and optimization – FEM analyses, verification and improvement suggestions, often linked to CE marking or other standards.

Our team

Our computational engineers have deep technical expertise and broad experience from various industries. We have calculated everything from train components, robots and electrical machines to oil platforms, masts and wind turbines.

Our assignments have included dimensioning structures for extreme environments – such as seismic impact in earthquake-prone areas – and optimizing systems for thermal performance, airflow or pressure relief. We always work closely with our designers, because we know that calculation and design go hand in hand to create solutions that really work.
